Long before the compositions, the symbolism, and the pursuit of realism, there was simply a fascination with making things appear on paper. This drawing is one of his earliest works - a small glimpse into where it all began.

Shakir James is a self-taught Trinbagonian multidisciplinary creative and artist based in Georgia, USA.
His relationship with creativity began early, picking up a pencil at just three years old and later developing his foundation through art classes. What started with drawing eventually grew into a deeper exploration of visual storytelling, hyperrealism, the human experience, and the many ways creativity can take shape.
While charcoal and graphite played a significant role in shaping his artistic voice, Shakir now works across multiple mediums, including oil, without limiting himself to a single form of expression. He believes creativity is meant to evolve and that no artist should feel confined by the tools they use to bring an idea to life.
At the center of his work is a curiosity about people, emotion, experience, and the things that often go unnoticed. His work can move between hyperrealism, surrealism, observation, and imagination, depending on what the idea calls for.
A pencil may have been where it started, but creativity is where it continues.
